On June 28th, Eli Lilly and Company sponsored a collaborative event with Visit Indy called the Learn About Indy and Brand Yourself Workshop. During this event, we were able to learn about some incredible new developments and events coming to Indy. Many people in our community have lived in Indiana their whole lives and may feel like they’ve seen everything the midwest has to offer. The desire to relocate to a larger city can be very tempting, especially when you are fresh out of college and want to experience something new.

Most people have no idea what their city will look like in the next 5 years and what opportunities will be available to them. So, we’re here to tell you about some things that you won’t want to miss out on! This definitely isn’t the Indy you’ve grown up with! Let us know which event or development you’re most excited about?!

Thank you to Eli Lilly and Company for sponsoring this wonderful talk. And thank you to Visit Indy for providing the imagery and information listed below! Be sure to visit their website to learn more!

1. INDY ELEVEN STADIUM

Indy is known as the sports capital of the world! So, it’s no surprise that we are continuing to invest in expansion of some of our community’s favorite sports teams. The Indy Eleven played their inaugural game back in 2014, and have been stationed at Carroll Stadium since then. However, over $1 Billion dollars are currently being invested in a 20,000 seat stadium for soccer fans everywhere to gather for their favorite game. There will also be incredible nightlife opportunities, housing options, and retail shops built around the stadium right in the center of downtown. The stadium is scheduled to open by the year 2025.

2. INDIANAPOLIS CITY MARKET

One of Indy’s most popular destinations is the Indianapolis City Market. It is full of all different types of cuisine from countries around the world. If you’re in the mood for Greek food, you can order a fresh gyro with tzatziki sauce. If you’re in the mood for some nice Mexican food, you can order tacos from Ztapatia Mexican Grill. The possibilities are endless! Indy is continuing to shape a unique food culture beyond the many food festivals that are hosted in the city. That commitment is reflected in the $175 Million Dollars being spent to make the City Market more accessible and walkable for all Hoosiers by the year 2025. There will even be a 10,500 foot event space for entrepreneurs to continue growing and promoting their businesses.

3. BICENTENNIAL UNITY PLAZA

Bicentennial Unity Plaza is destined to become one of the most popular landmarks in Indy! Located in the heart of downtown, this development will feature an outdoor basketball court for the community that is located right next to Gainbridge Fieldhouse (the home of the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever basketball teams)! In the winter months, the court will be transformed into an outdoor ice skating rink for all families to gather and show off their skills. The space will also become a hub for some of Indy’s biggest community events throughout the year, so you won’t want to miss out on this!

4. THE U.S. OLYMPIC SWIMMING TRIALS

Indy will be hosting the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials for the first time since the year 2000! People will be arriving in town from countries all over the world and gathering at Lucas Oil Stadium. The football arena will be converted into a larger than life swimming pool for the first time in history. The event will kickoff in the year 2024, and there will be plenty of food, shopping, and activities to discover in downtown Indy.

5. NBA ALL-STAR WEEKEND

From February 16th-18th 2024, Indy will be hosting the NBA’s All-Star Weekend. As you may know, this event isn’t just for basketball lovers. This world-renowned event is a place where sports, art, music, culture, food, and philanthropy collide to create an immersive experience for every attendee. The Arts Council of Indianapolis will be bringing a unique group of artists together to create art installations around Indianapolis. There will also be a 3-pointer contest, multiple concerts, food, and amazing events geared towards fans.

We hope you are just as excited as we are about these new attractions! This blog only covers a small percentage of the entertainment, housing, and employment opportunities coming to Indianapolis. Indy is truly becoming a more diverse, engaging, and vibrant place to live! We hope you join us at the upcoming events, and make sure you check out Visit Indy to discover more!
